When I was preparing my suitcase, I packed a lot of warm clothes, because I thought it was going to be very cold and wet in Dublin. A few days before we left there was also a lot of wind in Europe and there were news reports saying that train and flight traffic had been disrupted by the bad weather. We all held on to our hearts that this wouldn’t happen with our train and plane, but we were lucky. Once we arrived it became clear that it was not going to be a sunny holiday. During our city walk there were rain showers and strong winds, which even turned our umbrellas inside out.
The rest of the days the weather was similar. Even for the Irish the weather turned out to be very bad. Every time someone asked us how long we had been in Dublin, they apologized for the bad weather we had already had to endure. Little did they know that the weather in Belgium was not much better and that we are used to such bad weather.
Despite the bad weather I really enjoyed the trip. So for everyone who wants to visit Ireland I would like to recommend the following: bring enough warm and rainproof clothing and if you hope to get a tan, choose another destination. 😉
