Dublin Street Art

Street art mural by SHANE SUTTON

Dublin is well-known for its landmarks and places of interest, as for instance Dublin Castle, the Spire of Dublin, Trinity College, St. Patrick’s Cathedral and many more. But during the current ‘urban era’ we have to take another art form into account that dominates the Irish capital, namely street art.

The first pieces of street art in Dublin were created 13 years ago during an international graffiti festival. Artists from all over the world gathered near the Tivoly Theater to express their creativity and together they have created many graffiti masterpieces.

This specific type of artwork, however, is no longer only found near the former Tivoly Theater (which has been demolished in 2019). Different pieces of art have spread steadily throughout the entire city centre. There’s a different piece to be found at almost every turn you make.

The types of work range from miniature pieces to simple tags to giantesque murals. Some even require 3D-glasses to see the full effect! Every artist naturally has his/her own style, so Dublin really is the street art-wonderland! There are so many pieces of street art to be discovered in Dublin, that it might feel as if we were walking around in an exhibition. Multiple artists created multiple pieces in Dublin, so they are easy to discover and compare them with each other.

I am very curious to discover some pieces of street art when wandering through the streets of Dublin, so I will definitely keep an eye out for them!

Have a nice day!
